Our Water  Supply

The primary source of water used by Zelienople is Scholars Run.  This small creek follows Route 19 to Middle Lancaster where it originates from Perry Lake.  (For you people who live along its route, please treat the watershed kindly as it is the source of our drinking water.)  Water from Scholars Run is diverted to our raw water reservoir system which consists of three ponds.  However, this small creek often is dry from late summer through fall, thus our reservoirs are designed to hold, at maximum capacity, about a 90-day supply.  When the reservoirs approach a very low mark, and the weather forecasts indicate no rain, we start pumping water from our secondary source, which is an interconnection with Marion Township.

The pictures on this page show our water intake at Scholars Run and one of the reservoirs.
