Zelienople Lions Club
The
Zelienople Lions Club was founded in 1949 by men
interested in community service and in promoting the
ideals and objectives of Lions Club International which
includes a spirit of understanding among the people of
the world; good citizenship and good government; the
welfare of the community; friendship, fellowship, and
mutual understanding leading to an open discussion of
public interest matters. Zelienople Lions Club expanded
its membership to include women more than a decade ago,
and working together, members bring together a variety
of professional and cultural interests which assure
success in their many community service projects.

Zelienople club members have traditionally
sponsored the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween
Parade, Drug Awareness Poster Contest for elementary
students, White Cane Days to aid those with vision
problems, parties for the blind or vision impaired of
Butler County, and periodic vision examination programs
for community residents. The club finances eye care and
eyeglasses for residents in financial need, supports all
the vision and hearing projects sponsored by the
International Association of Lions Clubs. supports
Leader Dogs for the Blind, Beacon Lodge Camp for sight
impaired people, and has begun to work with a new
diabetes awareness project. Evidence of the Club's past
projects in Zelienople are the trash receptacles on Main
St. and the Lion drinking fountain at the corner of
Grandview and Main. Funds to support these programs are
raised by the annual sale of Entertainment Dining Coupon
books, and the sale of "Lions Tails" (curly French
fries) at community events.
Membership is open to all adults interested in
good fellowship and community service. Information is
available from the club secretary at (724) 452-7743.
